Constipation

Constipation: Symptoms and how to combat it

 

Constipation occurs when one has three or fewer bowel movements throughout the week, thereby leading to stomach cramps and a loss of appetite. With time, the feces become harder and difficult to pass. If chronic, constipation can lead to colon cancer or rectal cancer. Therefore, it is necessary to keep track of your bowel movements which then affects your digestive cycle. It usually occurs because the body absorbs too much water from the food consumed, or physical inactivity, certain prescribed medications or aging.

If not severe, constipation can be cured with certain changes in lifestyle. Dosage or use of laxatives should always be prevented until necessary. Constipation Symptoms may indicate the magnitude of the problem, and there are various measures which an individual can take to eliminate such brutal consequences.

Constipation Symptoms

  1. Lack of a fiber-rich diet

  1. Aging

Aging leads to slowing down of certain muscle tissues, thus impacting the bowel movements causing constipation.

  1. Not drinking enough water

Beverages like coffee, soda, and tea contain caffeine which causes dehydration. Alcohol is highly dehydrating too. To avoid constipation, drinking plenty of water is necessary.
