Arthritis

Arthritis
Arthritis, meaning a medical condition in which the joints become tender and swell is one of the most extreme orthopedic diseases prevalent in today’s time. The person suffering from arthritis experiences extreme pain in the joints and stiffness. This condition is known to grow severe with age.

There are two Arthritis types, namely Osteoarthritis and Rheumatoid arthritis. In the former one, the cartilage in the joints experiences wearing. The cartilage that is meant to make the movement between the bones smooth and comfortable gets damaged, and therefore the bones in the joint come in contact with each other, creating friction which results in pain. This happens over the years and affects the entire joint. The bones may face complications, and the connective tissues around the joint also suffer damage. The second type of arthritis, Rheumatoid Arthritis happens when the body’s own immune system attacks the synovial membrane of the joint, which is the lining that protects it. This causes swelling and inflammation of the joint and causes unbearable Arthritis pain.

Another form of arthritis, psoriatic arthritis is a condition in which the body is affected by psoriasis. This causes the skin to develop several red patches and silvery scales on it. This condition is followed by the pain, swelling, and inflammation in the joints that are the characteristic Arthritis symptoms.
People with a history of the disease in the family are more prone to it as the genetic makeup of the person is more susceptible to the disease. Women develop rheumatoid arthritis more often than men, while they mostly suffer from gout, which is another type of the same disease. Age is an essential factor as the condition of arthritis worsens with age. People who have had previous injuries in the joints also are susceptible to the disease as are obese people as the joints suffer more stress due to the excess body weight.
